welcome to mayfield: day 3

[Those who wake up in the town on the third day will soon notice that something's definitely off. The cracks in the sky are appearing more frequently and lasting for minutes at a time, and there's a strange white fog drifting over the clouds.

For those who've just arrived, welcome to our new little town! We're sure you're glad to see your missing friends again; nothing to worry about here, they've just been too busy enjoying the upgraded carnival to go back home. Any bleeding limbs or serious wounds you may spot are obviously just a sign of how much fun they've been having.]

OOC: If your character damages or affects the carnival or town in a noticeable and normally permanent way, please comment here.

[All the classic games that you've enjoyed playing in Mayfield are still here, but it looks like someone upgraded the prizes! Instead of broken-down toys, brightly colored stuffed animals line the shelves, looking like they were just bought from the store. Even the jewelry's gone from cheap costume glass to what seems almost like genuine pearls and precious stones.

Of course, with no drones running the stands, there's nothing to stop you from simply reaching out and taking the prize of your dreams. It's certainly better than whatever you might have won in the other carnival, right?

Just kidding! Cheaters never prosper, after all. Not only does reaching for a prize have a chance of vanishing your hand like yesterday, but those of you who stole one before will find that it's disappeared, along with a good chunk of whatever it happened to be touching. Let's hope you weren't already wearing that necklace.]

[Hey, who knocked over the food stand? It looks like someone got a little angry that their milkshake was a little melted and upturned the whole thing onto its side. Luckily, even fallen over and splintered, delicious food will still appear on the ground when you order off the menu. The food is the same as yesterday - yummy and fresh and not filling in the least, with a chance of taking an internal organ or two when it vanishes from your stomach.]

[Looks like the Ferris Wheel's gotten a bit of an upgrade! There's no one running it, but just have a friend pull the lever while you and your sweetheart climb into a seat, and away you go! Other than the occasional problem of the seats suddenly becoming insubstantial under you, the ride runs extremely smoothly, so go ahead and enjoy the spectacular view of Mayfield from the top. Unfortunately, there seems to be a spot of bad weather, as there's an extremely thick white fog obscuring the sight of anything beyond the carnival and the small street behind it....

The fog has lowered to the point where anyone riding the Ferris Wheel will be surrounded by it when they get to the top and will be unable to see anything except white space. Some of you may find yourselves coming back down changed....]

[Where the freak show used to stand is now a grandiose Tunnel of Love. The swan boats have been destroyed, but you can still walk along the side or tread down the shallow moat holding hands with your sweetheart. The only decorations in the tunnel are paintings and photographs of a certain red-haired woman, although it seems like a few of them have been torn down....

Walk too far down the tunnel, however, and you'll find yourself hitting a dead end where the ride cuts off into nothing but a blank, dark space. If you get caught here, you'll find yourself endlessly falling through what can only be described as nothing. If you're lucky, part of you may find its way back to the entrance to the funhouse here. There also seems to be things scurrying around in the darkness....]

[Feel free to re-enter the funhouse. If you search hard enough, you may even be able to get past the funhouse into the main area you explored before. But there seems to be something moving in the utter pitch darkness...]

[There are four standard Mayfield houses lining this short street, two on each side. The first house on the right has the number 501 printed on the mailbox; while the front door is still locked, the window on the side has been broken.

The other houses have no numbers on their mailboxes and are unlocked. The interior of all three houses are bare - there's a working stove and sink in the kitchen and the upstairs bathroom has a fully functional toilet, but there's no other furniture to be found and some of the floorboards have been destroyed - the third house, in particular, looks like it's been torn apart inside by a couple of miscreants. There's also phones in every room, but all you can hear if you pick them up is static and extremely vague voices in the distance. Some of the voices seem to be screaming.]

(OOC: If you're going into a house, please put which one in the header: 501, House #1, House #2, or House #3. Please note that attempting to enter 501 will highly likely result in serious injury or death.)

[The inside of the church is the same as before, empty even of rats. Out on the doorstep of the church, however, it looks like someone was kind enough to leave a crate full of bottles of ice-cold milk, chock full of essential vitamins and valuable nutrients! What a relief for those of you tired of eating rat, huh?]

(OOC: Anyone who drinks the milk should not expect a happy ending.)
