welcome to mayfield: day 3

[Those who wake up in the town on the third day will soon notice that something's definitely off. The cracks in the sky are appearing more frequently and lasting for minutes at a time, and there's a strange white fog drifting over the clouds.

For those who've just arrived, welcome to our new little town! We're sure you're glad to see your missing friends again; nothing to worry about here, they've just been too busy enjoying the upgraded carnival to go back home. Any bleeding limbs or serious wounds you may spot are obviously just a sign of how much fun they've been having.]

OOC: If your character damages or affects the carnival or town in a noticeable and normally permanent way, please comment here.

[...Lithuania looks over at the other nation.]

So you're like an incredibly hard man to find, you know that? [Or maybe Poland's just terrible at looking for things. Or some combination of the two.]

[vytis]

I am--I've been looking everywhere for you! [Except when he paused to tear up a house and also to watch over Koharu.] Are you alright? You haven't gotten yourself hurt, have you?

Liet please. [Poland shoves his hand in Lithuania's face, as if to shut him up.] Remember who you're talking to. Like as if I'd get hurt.

[Although speaking of hurt--] Did you find Koharu yet?

[vytis]

[Lithuania nods.] She's inside the church. We ran into each other yesterday. She seems--as well as she can be, given the circumstances and her arm.

[He's already decided he can't blame Poland for that, so he's not going to bring it up. Poland helped her with it so he already knows about it anyway.]

Estonia and Latvia are here, too. We did some looking around on the first day.

Oh good! [If Koharu's okay...ish then Poland doesn't have to worry about that anymore.]

Seriously they're here too? I don't suppose you like, found anything helpful did you?

Estonia and I found a pamphlet that talked about Mayfield having suspended animation and virtual reality.

[And then they tore up a house.]

Uh... suspended what?

[Sounds like nerd-talk to him.]

Where you're asleep but don't age at all. [Good thing Lithuania knows Estonia.]

What like the stuff in movies? [Movies that Poland usually ends up nodding off halfway into. Fortunately he is familiar with virtual reality at least, given the amount of videogames he plays.]

So this isn't real?

[vytis]

Right. [He gestures up at the cracked sky and then hesitates a moment before continuing:] Mayfield might not be real, either. The normal Mayfield, I mean.

[It's really odd to be calling any version of Mayfield normal.]

You think that's why no one ever stays dead or anything when they die? Like in videogames, you know you have back up lives sometimes.

[vytis]

Right. And why we don't have our bodies to begin with. Estonia compared it to the Matrix?

[likesottlyfab]

[Poland looks back up at the sky for a bit.] It kind of looks like it's glitching or something.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing though? [This is usually around the time Poland would shut the game off and restart. Except Mayfield doesn't have any save points to his knowledge.]

[vytis]

I don't--know. [This stuff is really strange to think about and grasping that sort of stuff was always more Estonia's thing.]

If everything is fake, where are we really?

[Poland balls up his fist and socks Lithuania in the shoulder.]

Does that hurt?

[vytis]

[Punching Poland's shoulder in retaliation.] Of course! [Not that... He's acting like it did but that's Lithuania for you.]

It's not like we're not real, just our bodies might not be. Like in the movies where they put a big helmet over your head and you think you're in a different world.

[likesottlyfab]

Jeez Liet! I was just checking! [Rubbing his shoulder, even though Lithuania's lame punches don't hurt at all or anything.]

But what happens if it's breaking while we're still inside it?

[vytis]

...Maybe we get out that way?

[Lithuania is attempting to be optimistic for once! Mostly because lately Poland has seemed kind of down.]

Or we're like gonna be totally trapped forever.

[Poland frowns.] Maybe there's cheat codes or an easter egg somewhere.

[Not that Poland relies on cheat codes all the time or anything to play videogames. No way.]

[vytis]

It's not as if we're sitting in front of a television or a computer. If we wanted to find anything like that we'd have to start tearing this place apart.

So what should we tear apart first?

...Well, Estonia and I already mostly tore up one of the houses...
