[The fifth day doesn't dawn at all. In fact, the sky simply isn't there anymore; the only thing visible if you look up is pure black nothing. Most of the carnival itself is no longer visible, having been blanketed by thick white fog; any attempt to enter said fog will result in your body rapidly disintegrating. The street at least still seems to be intact, but with no way out and the fog slowly creeping in, who knows how long that'll last?

Luckily, it seems like the cavalry has finally arrived.]

(OOC: This marks the last day of the event! Anyone who has won a prize from Mayfield's carnival will be able to access both Mayfield and this area through the funhouse, and will be able to take one person with them on each trip they make. If your character is not rescued by the end of the day, they will be disintegrated by the fog and will wake up the next morning in Mayfield with the standard revival effects. You are free to comment in this post regardless of whether your character signed up for the event.)

[This carnival seems to be getting less and less maintained by the day. Your nerves aren't the only thing fallen apart: what were previously holes in the sky have expanded to cracks. What parts of the sky that haven't fallen into that strange, warping nothingness are full of brown smog-like clouds.

The carnival itself has become filthy, with trash and grease spots littered everywhere. The walls of the tents, wooden stands, and houses seem to be slightly melted, for lack of a better term. The holes of corrupted nothingness aren't confined to the sky anymore: pockets of nothing litter the carnival, shifting tears in the fabric of reality that hurt your eyes to look at.

A faint buzzing noise fills the air, making it difficult to concentrate. If you listen long enough, it starts to sound like voices. For your own sake, it's probably best not to listen to what they have to say.

You're also not alone here anymore, for those of you operating under the assumption that you ever really were. If you've been missing the friendly drones of Mayfield, fear no more, because scattered throughout the carnival are a few drone families seeing the sights, riding the rides and playing the games. Curiously, unlike the drones back home, these ones don't seem to notice you at all, acting as if you're not even there.

Also curiously: their features are warped nearly beyond recognition. Some are missing limbs or facial features; others appear to have had those features scrambled by Picasso's paintbrush, with mouths on their scalps or teeth on their fingers. Still other drones appear to be fused together at the wrist, or waist, or face. None of them seem to be any more aware of their deformity than they are of you.

...and yet, somehow, you can't shake the feeling that when you're not looking at them, they're looking at you.

New here? That's alright; your missing friends have had plenty of time to get acquainted, and they'll be happy to show you around. Just watch your step, because some of these old rides need some maintenance...]

[Anyone who's exploring the houses tonight will find that there seems to be less static on the lines than usual. The connection's still pretty unstable, but try hard enough and you just may be able to contact those on the other side of town....]

(OOC: If you would like to make a call back to Mayfield, please use this post. Characters will not be able to filter calls.]

[Those who wake up in the town on the third day will soon notice that something's definitely off. The cracks in the sky are appearing more frequently and lasting for minutes at a time, and there's a strange white fog drifting over the clouds.

For those who've just arrived, welcome to our new little town! We're sure you're glad to see your missing friends again; nothing to worry about here, they've just been too busy enjoying the upgraded carnival to go back home. Any bleeding limbs or serious wounds you may spot are obviously just a sign of how much fun they've been having.]

[Day two of whatever this place is dawns bright and cheerful. Not much seems to have changed; the carnival is still standing, the town still empty of drones, the sky still bright blue and --

-- hang on, what was that? Did some sort of crack just appear in that patch of sky?

...oh, it's gone now. Must have just been your imagination. Anyway, there's no time to waste staring aimlessly at the sky, not when there's more friends showing up! Lucky there's more than enough food to go around, eh?]

[As you step out of the funhouse, blinking against the strong sunlight, it may seem at first that you've wound up back where you started. The carnival with all of its joys and wonders still stands, the Ferris Wheel looming majestically over Mayfield...

...except, did it always look that new and shiny? And it's not the only thing that got a makeover either; it seems like everything in the carnival has been fixed up from its previously rundown state. Fresh coats of paint gleam from every stand and every ride, and there isn't a spot of rust or a broken board anywhere in sight. At the entrance of the carnival hangs a large banner that reads:

Welcome to Mayfield - the Happiest Town on Earth!

Just how long were you exploring the funhouse for, anyway?

And as you start taking in the changes, you may notice one other minor difference: there are no drones to be found anywhere. It seems like the only other living beings in this place are your fellow townspeople who also entered the funhouse...well, that and the large, vicious looking rats that scurry around from place to place. But don't worry, there aren't that many of them and they only come out at night! So go ahead and enjoy having the carnival all to yourselves; after all, with all those minor safety issues fixed up, what could possibly go wrong?

The back exit of the carnival leads to a small street with four standard Mayfield houses and its church at the end. Attempting to leave the carnival via the entrance (although we can't imagine why you would) will only wind up looping you to the end of this street. Where the rest of Mayfield has gone, well...who can say?]

Welcome to Mayfield, the happiest town on earth! This Mayfield seems quite a bit smaller than the one you're used to, though - other than the carnival, there's only four houses on the one street leading to it. As you spend more time here, you may come to notice several other differences as well:

- Any food the town creates, although edible and delicious, will not be filling or provide any nutritional benefits. In short, you'd better find another source of food if you don't want to starve to death.

- The water provided by the town is real enough; however, it looks slightly brown and has a metallic taste. Although side-effects aren't immediate, drinking enough of it has a strong chance of causing vomiting, fever, dizziness, migraines, delusions, and in extreme cases, death.

- While everything in the town appears to be brand-new, they also seem slightly...off. Objects will sometimes flicker in and out of existence, or appear to be solid but actually aren't for a few seconds (so good luck to anyone riding the Ferris Wheel!). Doors will sometimes open to entirely different locations within the town from before, or to nothing but a blank white space.

- There are currently no drones or NPCs anywhere in the town.

- There are, however, huge foot-long rats that come out during the night. They seem to act like normal rats, and will try to stay away from people who are awake, although they may try to take a chunk out of someone who's asleep. However, they turn vicious if attacked, and their bites have a high chance of causing painful swelling that eventually leads to gangrene, necrosis of the flesh, high fever, and after a few days, death. That said, they're no more sturdy or difficult to kill than what you'd expect from a typical rat, and it seems like they're edible....

- Anyone who dies here will remain dead until the end of the event. Their bodies will not disappear, but instead decompose like a normal corpse.

- Mayfield's usual system of resetting any damage done to the property overnight is no longer working at 100% - some (but not all) of the repercussions of what characters do to the town will remain. If your character damages or otherwise marks any area of the carnival in a way that would be noticeable and normally permanent, please comment to the appropriate thread and day below.

Other information, effects, and details will be revealed as the event goes on; however, please assume that until otherwise said, everything in this post will remain true until the end of the event. Any questions should go in the appropriate thread below.
