welcome to mayfield: day 1

[As you step out of the funhouse, blinking against the strong sunlight, it may seem at first that you've wound up back where you started. The carnival with all of its joys and wonders still stands, the Ferris Wheel looming majestically over Mayfield...

...except, did it always look that new and shiny? And it's not the only thing that got a makeover either; it seems like everything in the carnival has been fixed up from its previously rundown state. Fresh coats of paint gleam from every stand and every ride, and there isn't a spot of rust or a broken board anywhere in sight. At the entrance of the carnival hangs a large banner that reads:

Welcome to Mayfield - the Happiest Town on Earth!

Just how long were you exploring the funhouse for, anyway?

And as you start taking in the changes, you may notice one other minor difference: there are no drones to be found anywhere. It seems like the only other living beings in this place are your fellow townspeople who also entered the funhouse...well, that and the large, vicious looking rats that scurry around from place to place. But don't worry, there aren't that many of them and they only come out at night! So go ahead and enjoy having the carnival all to yourselves; after all, with all those minor safety issues fixed up, what could possibly go wrong?

The back exit of the carnival leads to a small street with four standard Mayfield houses and its church at the end. Attempting to leave the carnival via the entrance (although we can't imagine why you would) will only wind up looping you to the end of this street. Where the rest of Mayfield has gone, well...who can say?]

OOC and extra information about this town can be found here - please read it before you start tagging! Remember, only those in the first group should be in this post!

Barely seeing anything is part of the problem, though. [He still hasn't seen Poland or Koharu, and even though they got separated in the funhouse it's not as if they were that far behind.]

Like Lithuania said, it's Mayfield. Just because we haven't seen anything yet doesn't mean that there's not something about to happen... Or already happening, for that matter.

We should stick together.

[Estonia, for one, doesn't want to spend another few months isolated because some Mayfield horror scheme screwed up his relationships with his friend-brother-Baltic-things.]
balzams: (Uneasy ● Bad feeling)

[personal profile] balzams 2012-06-29 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)

[Latvia nods and quickly scarfs down the rest of his food. Even though it was his third burger he doesn't feel full at all and he eyes the service counter longingly]

Yeah, it does seem too quiet... What do you think happened to everyone else? I'm sure the whole town can't be here.
vytis: (oh tell me why)

[personal profile] vytis 2012-06-29 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lithuania nods agreement with Estonia's decision to stick together.]

This could be some other area, like the highway was. [He would rather think they're in a different place than consider the idea that everyone who isn't here has vanished.] Or like Westport?

[It has not yet occurred to Lithuania to wonder if Latvia or Estonia have heard of Westport.]
technophiling: (constant adjustment)

[personal profile] technophiling 2012-06-29 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's just going to cause anxiety to worry about everyone else's fate right now, until we can at least semi-determine our own.

[With a little nervous adjustment to his glasses, Estonia glances at Lithuania.]

Refresh my memory of Westport?
balzams: (Thoughtful ● Serious)

[personal profile] balzams 2012-06-29 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)

[Now he's completely lost]

I didn't know there was anywhere else around here besides Mayfield.
vytis: (oh tell me why)

[personal profile] vytis 2012-06-29 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It was before I arrived, but apparently there was another town some people got sent to called Westport. It was like Mayfield, only completely ruined, a-and I guess it was pretty dangerous...

[Wait, this is a terrible thing to be comparing their current situation to.]
technophiling: (typical things)

[personal profile] technophiling 2012-06-29 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Estonia nods, thinking a moment before pulling a crumpled notepad and a pen from his pocket, so scribble down some notes.]

It could very well be a similar situation. If only we knew someone who had experienced it first hand here presently.
balzams: (Smile ● Anxious)

[personal profile] balzams 2012-06-29 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
W-well this place actually looks pretty good so it can't be exactly the same, right?

So if it's well kept it won't be as dangerous, right? Right?
vytis: (oh tell me why)

[personal profile] vytis 2012-06-29 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Lithuania cannot answer Latvia's question at all honestly and hope to make him feel at all better. Have a really concerned look, instead!]

It's possible someone here was there... I didn't really go around asking...
technophiling: ([trio] needs more trio icons)

[personal profile] technophiling 2012-06-29 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Most normal but essentially useless response to any question ever, Lithuania. Good going.]

Maybe that would be a start... Latvia, you're in charge of optimism.
balzams: (Upset ● Complaining)

[personal profile] balzams 2012-06-29 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't make me in charge of that! You know I won't be able to do it!
vytis: (I don't know what hurt you)

[personal profile] vytis 2012-06-29 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Y-you're doing alright so far? [Lithuania that's not really helping.]
technophiling: (constant adjustment)

[personal profile] technophiling 2012-06-29 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Lithuania's the worrier and I'm busy trying to make sense of it all, so you'll have to do, Latvia, I'm very sorry.
balzams: (Upset ● Complaining)

[personal profile] balzams 2012-06-29 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't just decide things for me like that!

Why can't Lithuania be the optimist? He's been here to longest so that means he knows what there is to be optimistic about.
vytis: (I've got a fever)

[personal profile] vytis 2012-06-29 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)

[And now Lithuania is going back through every single event that's happened while he was here in his mind.

He is looking less optimistic by the second]

technophiling: (nervous laughter)

[personal profile] technophiling 2012-06-29 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
... [Estonia is pretty sure that is not how Mayfield works, sorry Latvia.]

But Lithuania's version of optimism is not having terribly bad stomach ulcers from worrying yet. Which isn't very optimistic. Come on, I'm sure you can do better.
balzams: (Upset ● Complaining)

[personal profile] balzams 2012-06-29 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
But I have no idea what's going to happen! It might be terrible just like you said.

It's too quiet and eerily clean...

And I'm still hungry.
vytis: (I don't know what hurt you)

[personal profile] vytis 2012-06-29 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't worry that much--

Weren't you just eating? [They are standing next to food, after all.]
technophiling: (default // something is probably up...)

[personal profile] technophiling 2012-06-29 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Whatever Estonia was going to say, he's now thoroughly sidetracked by Latvia's hunger. He was just eating. And the fact that Latvia isn't exactly known for being a bottomless pit, that has him thinking, and then worrying. Because this could be a whole other issue.]

Oh, no...
balzams: (Surprise ● Realization)

[personal profile] balzams 2012-06-29 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coming back onto the issue only reminded him more of it and he swipes another hamburger from the service counter]

vytis: (everything you think you know)

[personal profile] vytis 2012-06-29 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
...What? [Lithuania's tone is far more "please tell me you are not thinking what I think you're thinking" because this could really quickly become a hundred times worse if he's right.]
technophiling: (you don't know)

[personal profile] technophiling 2012-06-30 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
This is not good. Not good in the way that they've isolated us but I'm pretty sure they've no intention of feeding us, at least by conventional methods.

[You should both know him well enough by now to know that he has some idea of what those non-conventional methods might be.]
balzams: (Uneasy ● Bad feeling)

[personal profile] balzams 2012-06-30 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Taking a bite he seems rather thoughtful of it. It didn't taste bad at all, it just wasn't making him full. Latvia doesn't quite understand what Estonia's trying to say]

What do you mean 'no intention'? Food just keeps appearing on the counter top, it's not like it's being withed.

And what do you mean non-conventional...?

vytis: (oh tell me why)

[personal profile] vytis 2012-06-30 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lithuania reaches for a box of peanuts to examine it, turning it over in his hands.]

So this isn't real, then?
