[As you step out of the funhouse, blinking against the strong sunlight, it may seem at first that you've wound up back where you started. The carnival with all of its joys and wonders still stands, the Ferris Wheel looming majestically over Mayfield...

...except, did it always look that new and shiny? And it's not the only thing that got a makeover either; it seems like everything in the carnival has been fixed up from its previously rundown state. Fresh coats of paint gleam from every stand and every ride, and there isn't a spot of rust or a broken board anywhere in sight. At the entrance of the carnival hangs a large banner that reads:

Welcome to Mayfield - the Happiest Town on Earth!

Just how long were you exploring the funhouse for, anyway?

And as you start taking in the changes, you may notice one other minor difference: there are no drones to be found anywhere. It seems like the only other living beings in this place are your fellow townspeople who also entered the funhouse...well, that and the large, vicious looking rats that scurry around from place to place. But don't worry, there aren't that many of them and they only come out at night! So go ahead and enjoy having the carnival all to yourselves; after all, with all those minor safety issues fixed up, what could possibly go wrong?

The back exit of the carnival leads to a small street with four standard Mayfield houses and its church at the end. Attempting to leave the carnival via the entrance (although we can't imagine why you would) will only wind up looping you to the end of this street. Where the rest of Mayfield has gone, well...who can say?]

I have a few friends around. Right now I'm just trying to get my bearings.

I'll tell you outright that that's probably not going to happen. The real fun's only starting, yeah?

Try to not worry about it too badly now. It can't be that bad.

How long have you been in Mayfield anyway, Amy?

March of this year. [ Long enough to know the town does some strange things, but not long enough to lose her spirit. ] My companions have been here for a long time themselves however. Well, it seems like that at least. Rory knew about the people here, but I was here before he showed up.

It seems like a lot of the people I've met are pretty used to the kinds of things Mayfield does by this point.

[ Amy's not entirely. In fact, the freak show was her first taste of the lewd things this place can do. Speaking up on that is one thing, so instead her gaze will shift to the side to avert his own. ]

Seems like it. Nothing's more frustrating than being behind on everything.

Well, at least you've got some friends in town you can rely on.

[ It's naive and hopeful of a question if only because Amy can't imagine what it's like to do all of this alone. ]

Actually, yes, I do. My niece and her sister are both in town. I got really lucky that way.

They aren't young, are they? You'd feel the pressure to protect them if they were.

They're teenagers. They can probably take care of themselves by now, but I do feel responsible for them.

Teenagers? You're in for a fun time.

[ That age. Amy can't imagine being a teenager in Mayfield of all places. ]

The last time I saw them, they were pretty young, so I'm still learning how to adjust. They even both have boyfriends already.

You're going to give the boys 'the speech', right?

I've already met one of them. Rin's got him well in hand. She's definitely already the one in charge in that relationship.

That's good and all, but do you really think that will keep them from doing what young people in love will do?

[Oh. Right. He hadn't considered that.]

...Maybe I should talk to them both about that.

You should. Especially if they've grown up in the time you haven't known them. Who knows what strange influences others have made on their lives.

Well, I suppose it can't hurt to at least have that talk with them.

Being a responsible adult is hard, but someone has to do it.
