welcome to mayfield: day 1

[As you step out of the funhouse, blinking against the strong sunlight, it may seem at first that you've wound up back where you started. The carnival with all of its joys and wonders still stands, the Ferris Wheel looming majestically over Mayfield...

...except, did it always look that new and shiny? And it's not the only thing that got a makeover either; it seems like everything in the carnival has been fixed up from its previously rundown state. Fresh coats of paint gleam from every stand and every ride, and there isn't a spot of rust or a broken board anywhere in sight. At the entrance of the carnival hangs a large banner that reads:

Welcome to Mayfield - the Happiest Town on Earth!

Just how long were you exploring the funhouse for, anyway?

And as you start taking in the changes, you may notice one other minor difference: there are no drones to be found anywhere. It seems like the only other living beings in this place are your fellow townspeople who also entered the funhouse...well, that and the large, vicious looking rats that scurry around from place to place. But don't worry, there aren't that many of them and they only come out at night! So go ahead and enjoy having the carnival all to yourselves; after all, with all those minor safety issues fixed up, what could possibly go wrong?

The back exit of the carnival leads to a small street with four standard Mayfield houses and its church at the end. Attempting to leave the carnival via the entrance (although we can't imagine why you would) will only wind up looping you to the end of this street. Where the rest of Mayfield has gone, well...who can say?]

I do not know. Possibly to trap those of us who dared try to exit Mayfield?

What, like through the fun house? But it's not like anybody knew it would take us out of Mayfield.

Previously, there was a broadcast that informed us of some sort of holes located in the carnival. I do not know if this was an intentional trap of the town.

Is that what it was saying? I didn't catch all of it.

I did not either, but the general idea was that there would be some method of escape through the carnival now that Zemekis' control is weakening.

And so everybody went to look for it. Huh. And here I was thinking it was just 'cause the place was all boarded up and then suddenly wasn't, you know? Natural curiosity and all that.

I went in because I failed to find exits in any of the other places.

[fasterthan]

I went in because I was investigating. But hey, either way, we're still stuck here.

What resources have you located so far?

[fasterthan]

Well there's the food stall. There's a couple of houses too, but they're empty of pretty much everything. Other than the houses and the carnival though, there isn't anything.

The water, so far, seems to be drinkable, though the taste leaves much to be desired.

[A pause.]

Is the lawn edible?

[fasterthan]

[He blinks.]

You know, I haven't checked.

[answerer_sword]

If it is, then perhaps it can serve as our food supply...

[fasterthan]

Doesn't seem all that... I dunno. Nourishing.

[answerer_sword]

Better than the food in the food cart, at least.

[fasterthan]

Yeah, I guess that's true. I mean that stuff tastes fine, but it's like it's not actually there or something.

I would rather have nutritious food than "tasty" food, especially if it is a matter of survival.

[fasterthan]

Yeah well I don't think grass is really either, you know?

[answerer_sword]

It will...just take some getting used to.

[fasterthan]

Probably would take a ton of grass to be at all filling, too.

[HIS METABOLISM IS WICKED FAST THIS IS IMPORTANT he'd have to like. Hoover up the lawns of every single house to be satiated for even an hour.]

That may be right. Perhaps we should seek some other source of food...before turning to grass.
