welcome to mayfield: day 3

[Those who wake up in the town on the third day will soon notice that something's definitely off. The cracks in the sky are appearing more frequently and lasting for minutes at a time, and there's a strange white fog drifting over the clouds.

For those who've just arrived, welcome to our new little town! We're sure you're glad to see your missing friends again; nothing to worry about here, they've just been too busy enjoying the upgraded carnival to go back home. Any bleeding limbs or serious wounds you may spot are obviously just a sign of how much fun they've been having.]

OOC: If your character damages or affects the carnival or town in a noticeable and normally permanent way, please comment here.

[Byakuren slowly rises to her feet, trying her best not to gape.]

What...happened?

[ Pointing in some direction. ] I came in through the fuuun house because the kids said that they saw Yukko go in. I was worriiied.

But I can't find her.

This place doesn't look right. It looks like...

[Crona trails off there, not really wanting to say it.]

Did you know my blood is black? [And opts to just say that instead, as if it explains it.]

[Flandre had landed awkwardly on her side, and was still working out which way was the sky and which was Remi when something knocked the breath out of her lungs. She made only the barest gurgling cry before hands clasped around her throat. She hadn't regained all of her vampiric traits yet; she still needed to breathe, and this triggered an immediate reaction in Flandre snapping her fangs and thrashing around.

Her escape impulses were muddled, now; she didn't immediately dissolve into mist like before. Instead she struggles and flails and rakes her claws against the arms, the back of the hands, the tendons, make it stop make it go away go away]

... Huh? [ Nitori stares at Satou. Humans are odd, but they are pretty fearless as well. She gulps. ] I-I suppose that's how most door locks work. Are you sure though? I-I mean the window is a good enough entrance...

... Though the door would be much safer.

[ She sighs softly. It's a smart idea, though Nitori can't help thinking that they shouldn't be doing this. ]

... Alright Satou. I'm sure the front door isn't too far away. But if we can't unlock it, then we head straight back here! Okay?

I've experienced time outright stopping before, but never...whatever you'd call this.

[He nods.]

My own metabolism is fairly slow, so I should be all right for a while...there's nothing here to eat other than those rats, then?

[Because that carnival food he saw doesn't count. Didn't eat it in the first carnival, and he's not even considering it for the second.]

[Something comes out of the tunnel- something that could have once been a drone... or three. Three bodies have been fused together in a sick mockery of the human form, the flesh fused together as if it were clay. Two faces are squashed together at the seams, while a third extends from the thing's stomach, gibbering unintelligible nonsense. Given the creature's attire, it- or rather they -seem to have at one time been carnival workers.

Now the thing scrambles forward, its multiple arms reaching for the fallen Latvia, meaning to seize him and drag him back into the tunnel, where the other eyes watch still.]

Latvia!

[The cry is mostly automatic, as his eyes are locked on the--the thing. He grabs for Latvia with one hand and fires at one of the monster's faces with the other--he'll either drag Latvia to his feet or carry him, whichever gets them away from the monster faster.]

Alright, alright. As long as you eat as well.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen a single drone in the two days I've been here. What sort of reality is this that it's so void of life?

And then she'll probably yell and say she wasn't worried at all, right?

[Don't mind him. He's just passing by and happens to hear... random screaming. Instincts tell him not to go in, but then! He hears a familiar voice... and decides to go investigate.]

[It isn't long before someone joins him in the room. Slugger had been exploring the house from top to bottom in search of anything that might remotely resemble a "code". Nothing was found, other than Luke that is.]

[Spins and faces the newcomer, in full combat preparedness. In his case that's actually fairly dangerous. Ah...familiar person. He stands down and primly tidies his jersey and baldric.]

Have you seen Ilsa? Or Dakki? I was with them, then that wretched stairway threw Ilsa...somewhere. And when Dakki and I went after her, it dumped me here.

[Pause, and then, trying to pull out of frantic worry for Ilsa and their friend...]

Are you all right?

[He thinks he sees traces of Mayfield mayhem...]

[Luke is looking a lot paler then normal, and he's being awfully quiet. When he sees Slugger he'll smile weakly.]

Hi Slugger.

[strike_you_out]

[Unfortunately, he notices right away.]

You look sick...

I'm all right.

[He shifts a little, making sure his injured hand stays hidden, but he winces a little.]

Just haven't had much to eat is all.

Doesn't that mean the water will disappear if it evaporates?

[This might be worth knowing if there's some trick to it...]

So you didn't burn them after all. I'd wondered about that.

[At first, he's watching Cain talk, but when the other suddenly looks over, and he also sees some strange kind of movement, Holland will simply stare at it.

It made no sense at all, but his hand is on the boy's shoulder, keeping him close.]

I have just entered this realm and know very little of it, but the lack of drones was something I noticed almost immediately.

[Did humans get this pale just because they haven't eaten in a while? Slugger isn't entirely sure. What he's about to suggest is kind of horrible but if it'll prevent Luke from starving to death...]

I think there's a rat nest in the garage.
