welcome to mayfield: day 3

[Those who wake up in the town on the third day will soon notice that something's definitely off. The cracks in the sky are appearing more frequently and lasting for minutes at a time, and there's a strange white fog drifting over the clouds.

For those who've just arrived, welcome to our new little town! We're sure you're glad to see your missing friends again; nothing to worry about here, they've just been too busy enjoying the upgraded carnival to go back home. Any bleeding limbs or serious wounds you may spot are obviously just a sign of how much fun they've been having.]

OOC: If your character damages or affects the carnival or town in a noticeable and normally permanent way, please comment here.

[He wanted to make a grab at her to stop her from just jumping and wanted her to wait but... he wasn't quick enough. That being the case...]

Aw, hell...

[Approaching the ground now... he moved to stand up himself and prepared to jump at a safer distance. Being able to only see out of one eye happens to mess with a person's depth perception. Just a bit... and he miscalculated his jump. It was a nice try though! His right leg took most of the weight from the fall and he wasn't too pleased.

At least they were off of the ride.]

[He hopes this door won't last much longer. Humans tend to be fragile, and dissolving fingers were a Very Bad Thing.]

...Oh, dear. I understand completely. [She kneels in front of Crona and smiles. Her hand extends imploringly, like beckoning a child over]

I feel like I can't do anything at all.

[one - TWACK - after - THWACK - another. barely a minute and a half in and he's already tearing a sizable hole into the door. knocking a few shards of wood aside with the blunt end of the blade, he keeps at it until the door is weak enough to be kicked down, which he then attempts with a strained grunt.]

[He isn't phased by her reaction, but does give a coy smile.]

Don't worry, it won't start fires so long as it's concentrated. I'll be sure to give warning next time. [Though he won't apologize for scaring her and continues moving, the small flame lighting up the funhouse in a shade of lime green.] I wonder if we'll find anyone else in here. Perhaps more people trying to make it to this side of Mayfield.

[Voices. He could hear them on the other side of the door, they were coming to get him out! He'll try to weakly call out, feeling sluggish and drained as he continues to bleed.]

H-help...

[And with a cough, he'll try making his voice louder.]

Because Mayfield is a 'neurological simulation'. It's fake. [This is a known fact, but he feels the urge to recite it and perhaps to ground himself in what's supposedly reality.

But then he takes another look at Luke's ragged appearance with mounting uncertainty] ...Except it feels really real.

[Stepping out of the funhouse and into the daylight, Slugger takes in the bright colors of the carnival beneath a cracking, foggy sky.]

Hoping for groundwater? It might be just as tainted as the rest, if they share the same source.

[Unless the dirt does something. He can't recall if they went over the grittier details of survival back at the academy or not. Or if he even paid it any attention!]

Ah... [Welp, two things being held out to him. He stares at them for a moment, forcing his hidden arm to stay still and under the coat where it is so he won't do something stupid and reach for one of those without a hand.

The moment passes. He'll take one, then the other, one at a time, rather than reaching out for both at once.] Thank you, Major General.

[and then Rin remembers something, and turns urgently to the other members of the rescue party.]

Guys, when we get inside, no one touch the scratches behind the corpse, okay? That's what caused this - Gakupo, you should probably hold your nose... ♪

[Good, Luke is conscious.

Oh, right, dead body is in there. Yet...]! If there's something smelly in there, I'd rather not taste it through the air!

[Tokiomi decided to give it a shot, and eventually the something that's moving starts to be mentally noted. As opposed to outright blasting it, however, he will wait until it decides to show it's face. He's got the newly acquired jewels from his daughter, so he seems even more relaxed than usual.]

[You know.. I don't think Tokiomi has gotten enough of a warning about the food. ...Mainly because he has now decided to take a funnel cake and bite into it. There's nothing odd about it to him... But, y'know, for being one of the smartest Magi out there... he seems to be pretty dumb.]

[yeah, oh. guess who just forgot about the dead body.]

How 'bout we just not touch anything? [he gives the door one more hearty chop for good measure.] And here's another tip: hold your ears closed.

[he's not in the mood to go deaf again. once was more than enough, thank you very much.

he kicks the door again. and one more time. it finally gives way with some resistance and boom - the way is opened. gasping, he lowers the axe slowly. there's his workout for the day. the boy is laying on the ground several feet away and Once-ler takes the first step inside, hurrying to Luke's side.

just gonna ignore that dead body over there for the time being, yup.]

[Her head goes to her hand as the other holds one hand up for him to stop. He's probably the worst person ever to take along on covert things. Where's Midnighter when you need him? Or Jack, or Swift, hell, she'd even take Jackson and the man was like a damn jackhammer.]

Just, stay there, I'm going in.

[With a sigh she sparks up both hands and enters the room where the footsteps had been.]

No, not ground water, it's a way make water through the process of evaporation. I know someone who is a healer though, so I'll just ration my water if that water seems to have something wrong with it. As of now, I have plenty of it to keep me alive.

And don't worry about it. You happened to convince me not to destroy my uniforms. That's enough to deserve repayment.

[Cade didn't quite catch what she said, what with whispering across the room. She said "follow me, I'm going in", right?

He follows her in to other room with both sword and loaded revolver drawn. At least he's more quiet when he's clear of the glass.]

[you know that smug, irritating 'yeah I know right??' shrug that some people do when they're purposely missing sarcasm? guess who's doing it right now...

he waves a hand at her question, stepping aside from the window to allow her a clearer view.]

There isn't anything in here that hasn't been brought in by people, unless they town is hiding something beneath the floorboards. [...now he's looking at the floor contemplatively whoops] Which they could very well be doing, I suppose. Hm.

[He's a dead man when they get out of this place. A stone cold dead man. She'll force milk down his damn throat and watch him choke to death on it. And yes, she IS thinking about that right about now.]

[Luke watches three other people rush in, including Rin, before fear finally gives way to relief. The pain was still pretty intense, but with as much blood as he's lost, he's hit by a wave of exhaustion.

He glances up at Once-ler first, reaching out his bloodied hand.]

[Rin hurries in as well, and pauses at the piteous sight of Luke reaching his bloody hand towards the Once-ler. He's still conscious... he must be in so much pain...

Rin's starting to get a bit choked up. But she feels like they need to talk to him.]

It's... gonna be okay now... ♪

How many...how many new arrivals today? Any...that you recognize?

[She frowns. Maybe this Ciel is just an illusion, since it is refusing to talk.]

[After spending a while at the church, Crona has decided that maybe going back the way the kid had entered might work.

So...despite the obvious paranoia written on Crona's face, back into the funhouse we go. This scenery looks just...all too familiar. It was as if Crona were firmly back home within the reaches of insanity.

Ragnarok, of course, just continues to push the kid on. He wants to get out of what he is referring to as "freak town."]
