welcome to mayfield: day 3

[Those who wake up in the town on the third day will soon notice that something's definitely off. The cracks in the sky are appearing more frequently and lasting for minutes at a time, and there's a strange white fog drifting over the clouds.
For those who've just arrived, welcome to our new little town! We're sure you're glad to see your missing friends again; nothing to worry about here, they've just been too busy enjoying the upgraded carnival to go back home. Any bleeding limbs or serious wounds you may spot are obviously just a sign of how much fun they've been having.]
OOC: If your character damages or affects the carnival or town in a noticeable and normally permanent way, please comment here.

She's too focused on examining the wound to look up, but just feeling the smugness crashing in waves from Charles' direction is giving her a subtle case of heavy secondhand embarrassment. DON'T GET HER WRONG this is very flattering! And she'd definitely openly show a positive reception if things weren't like this right now! But still...
(also does she really look that innocuous
though yes the usual chipper moe outlook does help tremendously in disguising just how utterly terrifying she has the potential to become...)Gonna pull back a bit and write a line before handing her notepad to Holland:
As a precaution, please let me know immediately if your leg starts feeling anything at all, though it shouldn't. This set aside, have you been affected anywhere else? Check all your senses too, if possible.
That question is posed also as a distraction. Because the quickest way to get an idea of just wtf happened there is to try cutting into the flesh, she does plan to make an incision. Advising him to look away would just attract his attention, so let's try to get away with it without his notice while she reaches for and cracks open the small case containing a clean portable surgery knife. She's only going to make a few millimeters deep cut; just enough to check how much the composition of the affected area has changed from a normal person's biology. Making clean cuts and healing it would be super simple, she can be fast and discreet with both and make it off as it never happened. If it's some sort of weird new material that his skin, blood and flesh has been changed into, on the other hand...
Then she'd just have to resort to a temporary solution that'll last him until they get out of here. It may be hoping for too much, but she's got a feeling this injury will be easier to treat once they return to the normal Mayfield. She'll have more resources too, not to mention. So for now...
Is he gonna be focused elsewhere? She only needs a brief second or two.]

He knew Charles had a more sensitive sense of smell, and really all the other's senses were likely much more keen than Holland's. Still when she tells him to check his senses, he realizes he couldn't smell any kind of smell from the injury, and when he checks further he realizes he can't smell at all, nor could he taste.
They weren't as vital as his sight and hearing, but it's still disconcerting. After he checks that, he'll watch Ciel, surprised that he doesn't feel a thing, and then he gets slightly worried.]
You definitely did that, right? Made it so I can't feel anything? I shouldn't be feeling any pain and that's because of you, right? I don't feel anything at all.
[Not because, for example, he lost that sense too.]
no subject
and while his vision may be gone, his sense of smell is still above the level of the average human. the smell of blood released after Ciel makes the incision is what draws his attention, but there's a faint undertone of something else - something vaguely familiar - and it makes the smug smile fade into an expression of muted curiosity.]
What happened to your leg, anyway?
no subject
--Oh. Yeah, she manages to draw some blood, but this...
It's not flesh. At least, not completely flesh. The material is... No, she can't identify it, though odds are even if she could, it wouldn't help them any. Whatever this is, it's part of Holland's biology now, and trying to cut that off...
She won't risk it, not here, not now.
Quickly casting a heal to close the cut, wiping the wound clean, and putting the knife away, she nods. Pulling back, she'll get to adding a few extra line under her previous note:
The red cloth has magical properties, I've used it in conjunction with another spell to temporarily cut off response from your leg's pain receptors. You can pinch yourself if you're concerned about anywhere else. How are the rest of your senses?
And can't answer Charles unfortunately, nope... "red cloth" sounds better than "Burial Cloth", and "magic" is the simplest way to describe what she's doing. Hopefully that'll do, this isn't the time to explain the technicalities.]

I just . . . I can't smell or taste anything. I wanted to make sure I could still touch too.
There was gas coming out of it, but it sprayed more and that's what got my leg.
no subject
You're fortunate you didn't lose an entire leg in the process.
no subject
That gas neutralized your senses. You've had a larger intake than Charles, correct? That would explain why you have both smell and taste affected. As for your leg, it's transformed into a different kind of material entirely. I've healed the biological tissues surrounding it, but I won't risk doing anything else for the time being. There's a good chance that this may wear off once we return to the usual Mayfield, I can check back with you and do a follow-up for this once we're out if you'd like. Within the next hour, the sensitivity of your nerves will be restored to 30%, enough to stifle major pains while keeping you aware to not over-exert yourself. You should be able to walk, a makeshift cane will also be easy to craft. Do you have any questions about this?
She's being pretty clinical about it, at least, and incoming disdain from Charles' direction once more... but focus on Holland now, yes.]
no subject
I wouldn't mind a follow-up. Thanks for helping my leg.
[He'll touch the red cloth.]
Do you need this back?
no subject
Are we done now? [geez, slowpokes!! even if it's not like he has anywhere to go or anything to do whoops.]
no subject
The cloth's properties are part of what's limiting your sensitivity. Please keep it attached and don't try removing it, it won't fall off on its own as it is now. You may return it to me after we leave, but not before. This is all that I can do presently, do you need help standing up?
Going to glance back at Charles while Holland reads this. ...Yes, they are, impatient babby bat... But it's not like she can tell him. She didn't include anything about it in her notes, but maybe Holland'd be able to answer that? They ARE pretty much done too, to be fair here.]
no subject
[And he'll get up as if he's not really injured at all.]
Thanks for your help; I'll definitely give it back.
[Not even going to dignify Charles with an answer, instead giving a suggestion.]
. . . the church seems like a safer place than this.
no subject
either way, returning to the church doesn't sound at all appealing since he knows he'd just be sitting around doing nothing there, so he starts walking off now
to infinity and beyond. things seem to be winding down here anyway and he did tell someone the day before that he would be returning to house 501 today, so he might as well go and see if the loser had actually shown up...]no subject
It's fine. My name is Ciel, and I can accompany you back to the Church.
Getting up now and glancing at Charles, she can already tell he doesn't like the plan from a glance...
...
Yeah sorry blind shotapires aren't gonna amble anywhere on her watch. Have another time-out, Charles, by which I mean Ciel will fling a Black Key towards Charles without so much as batting an eyelash, and the rapier-like sword will indeed find purchase on his shadow. ...SORRY HOLLAND hopefully you didn't catch her throw a sword at Charles, but it's landed like 2 feet behind him anyway. ...No harm no foul, right?
She is going to be deeply scowling towards him though. It ought to be PRETTY obvious why he can't lift his feet off the ground anymore, so care to explain yourself where you're headed to, young man?]
no subject
[He'll try to pronounce it; it might be mostly successful.]
I'm Holland.
[He's pretty impressed with her power, watching without a word, brows lifted.]
Seems like you use that a lot.
no subject
wrinkles his nose and waves a hand at Ciel.... see he can still tell where people are even without his sight thanks to his top-notch hearing, that's totally grounds for letting him amble off!]
Excuse you, I have someone to locate. If we're all finished here, I'll meet you back at the church a little later.
no subject
STILL GIVING A FLAT STARE TOWARDS CHARLES... Even if he can't actually see. Writing quickly, she'll then present the Holland with the following:
Children often need the discipline. Please ask him how he'll do it and what good would he be if he finds that someone when he cannot see.
yes implying she does this to charles often, LET THAT SINK IN HOLLAND... and fierce mama bear much :v HER QUESTIONS ARE VALID THOUGH OKAY so please ask the rebellious babby bat over there for her, thanks...]
no subject
How do you think you'll find someone without seeing them? You'll be pretty useless even if you do find them.
[Yeah, he's not nice.]
no subject
I can tell people apart by the sounds that their hearts make. [sleep well with that knowledge...] Don't think me useless just because I've sustained a bit of damage. [an irritated tut] That said, I don't plan to do anything more than speak with him and that shouldn't take much time.
no subject
lol no plz keep going holland CIEL APPROVES OF THIS for the very reason because this is charles...
She still looks VERY skeptic. --Yep, going back to writing...
He has 20 minutes before I go after him.
please pass the message on u_u she'll remove the Key after that okay, and get on helping Holland back to the Church. Until then, we gotta finish tying up the loose ends to small details!!]
no subject
Ciel will find you in 20 minutes.
[And then he'll give a slightly huffy sigh.]
And she says be careful.
[Sure she does. He'll give Ciel a glance, then look casually away.]
I can make it, I think.
no subject
but aww Holland cares IF HE ONLY KNEW... as he doesn't, he just waves a hand dismissively at that since it's a pretty standard thing to hear from Ciel.]
Twenty minutes should be more than enough time, and of course I'll take care. I'm not an idiot. [but he is sometimes a little reckless whoops... he'll be taking extra care today, though, which he's certain he doesn't need to verbalize.]
no subject
Actually that's exactly the sort of thing she WOULD say. She just can't talk right now, so to save time she only stuck to the bare essentials (because boy would the lectures be far longer if Ciel could voice herself).
H...heh maybe she'll talk to Charles about it later... Or hmm maybe they're just both tsunderes who ought to be left to their tsun...
Hiding the amusement in her eyes, she'll walk over to pull the Key from Charles' shadow. Fine, fine, he's free to go.
...But not before he's given a faint ruffle on his head. Hey, she can't speak and he can't see. This'll do as a final gesture, okay!! (And his cowlick stands tall and proud still, no one is surprised) With that done, she'll walk back to Holland and look at him questioningly. We ready to head back to the Church, now?]
no subject
[He'll test his leg a bit, and it does seem fine.]
I'll make it fine, it isn't far.
[He's just as stubborn in his own way, really.]
no subject
he's still pretty fast and accurate even without vision though, so after a quick pause to get his bearings, he'll be gone in an eyeblink (even if that was totally just for show and he'll go back to walking like a normal person shortly after so he doesn't go careening into the food cart or something). BYE LOSERS]
no subject
To which she'll just turn her head towards the direction he went off at - which is 100% accurate, before going back to her note:
I can find him whenever I want, I have my means of tracking him. I won't let him hear the end of it either, if he does do something foolish while he's gone. Shall we get going too? It's about time I go back to check on others at the Church, too.
Secretly implying she's not going back just for his sake, but for other people too so accompanying him is a matter of convenience. Does that make you feel better about yourself, Holland...]
