welcome to mayfield: day 3

[Those who wake up in the town on the third day will soon notice that something's definitely off. The cracks in the sky are appearing more frequently and lasting for minutes at a time, and there's a strange white fog drifting over the clouds.

For those who've just arrived, welcome to our new little town! We're sure you're glad to see your missing friends again; nothing to worry about here, they've just been too busy enjoying the upgraded carnival to go back home. Any bleeding limbs or serious wounds you may spot are obviously just a sign of how much fun they've been having.]

OOC: If your character damages or affects the carnival or town in a noticeable and normally permanent way, please comment here.

The first step to getting out alive is to take care of yourself. This isn't the right place to do that.

[And oh, hey, Kreutzer, he's just going to pick you up and carry you out of there now. Here's hoping he knows the way out.]

Well th-

(Nope, train of thought once again interrupted. She doesn't put much much resistance; that would take up more energy than she was willing to expend. She's still hugging her dolls...but she's still playing her part by giving directions.)

The exit's at the next left.

[He's walking in the indicated direction now. That she hasn't tried to slap him for picking her up like this kind of makes him worry. Usually, if he touches her, it's cause for clothes-burning.]

Just so we're clear, I'm not helping you. I'm using you. You're the only one in that house who knows how to cook anything that isn't eggs or takoyaki.

[He is, however, smiling ever-so-slightly as he says that. He may have just made a joke of some sort. Surely that is another sign this is the end times.]

(It is very close to a "it's all going to end" scenario, so might as well keep things as they are.)

That's fine with me.

(She coughs a bit, but at least she smiles somewhat. No witty comebacks this time; just honesty.)

Good.

[By this time, he has successfully navigated to the end of the maze. They're out of the funhouse now, and he's made no move to put her down.]

I'm sure someone has set up some sort of emergency medical outpost somewhere. I'll take you there.

(She hasn't made any move to go back down either.)

They'd likely be stationed at the church. It seems to be the only safe place here.

I'm surprised there's even that much of a safe place, to be honest.

[He looks around for a moment to get his bearings before starting to head in that direction.]

I suppose even they can pay respects to their religion...to think faith's influence can reach such heights...

(Not that Kreutzer was really a girl of faith, but she at least knew about it and what it could do to people.)

It's another rather human concept. Another curiosity.

[He's still walking towards the church.]

For an Undead, all there is is the call to fight, and the answer to that call.

Simplistic, but I won't question it if it works. I can't say humans aren't like that; they just feel the need to glorify their actions to differentiate themselves from other species.

[He chuckles a bit ruefully.]

There are times when it doesn't always work.

[Like if you start masquerading as a human and find you actually like it...]

Some humans don't seem to be quite like that...your species can be a surprising one.

We tend to do that. If there's one consistent thing about humans, it's their inconsistency.

(Quite a bit of truth right there.)

So I've found. It keeps you all interesting.

Hopefully we'll be able to stay that way. We seem to attract all kinds with that trait.

That's very true. I've noticed the species has attracted a few rather difficult sorts here and there.

[He's getting closer to the church now.]

Yes, not even humans are safe from outliers. Still, I can't say that all outliers are all bad...

(Because as they both know, Kreutzer's not exactly a normal human. Physically, yes, but mentally? It brings up a few questions.)

[Mentally? He's already compared her to other Undead. She would have functioned well in his world...or been the one responsible for unsealing him and the other Undead and starting another Battle Royale.]

Just another way things stay interesting...
