welcome to mayfield: day 2

[Day two of whatever this place is dawns bright and cheerful. Not much seems to have changed; the carnival is still standing, the town still empty of drones, the sky still bright blue and --

-- hang on, what was that? Did some sort of crack just appear in that patch of sky?

...oh, it's gone now. Must have just been your imagination. Anyway, there's no time to waste staring aimlessly at the sky, not when there's more friends showing up! Lucky there's more than enough food to go around, eh?]

OOC: If your character damages or affects the carnival or town in a noticeable and normally permanent way, please comment here.

OPEN! If your character was on the list of characters arriving on Day 1 or Day 2, they may comment here. All questions belong here.

[He raises an eyebrow and gives Ciel a look at that, one carefully devoid of any open concern: you sure?]

Yeah, some do. [There's a pause, lingering and deliberate, where it seems like Archer might refuse. But then it passes and Archer is putting one of the wrapped (and still warm) burgers into that open hand. It was already obvious to him that there was more to Ciel than what her surface might suggest - if she was willing to take such a risk, it was hardly an impulsive or reckless choice on her part. Besides, all blame and regret....would lie with her, and her alone.] ...sure, go wild.

[She briefly closes her eyes, again devoid of any worries or hesitation about her own request.]

Thank you.

[What follows can't be any less ordinary. She doesn't look worried or afraid either, unwrapping the burger normally before taking a bite in without skipping a beat. Chew, chew, chew, swallow. She takes a bit longer than normal trying to pinpoint the taste, but there's nothing off about it at all. ...Then a second, then a third. Considering that to be enough, she finally stops and re-wraps the burger back up.]

[The look in her eyes sharpen as she staggers a little and brings a hand to her mouth, but otherwise, she doesn't make a sound.

She swallows her own blood hard. This isn't the first time, she'll deal, and after a second, she simply seems to be glaring towards the ground. Getting her tongue cut isn't a new experience, but the real question now is... Will it grow back? She's cut herself immediately after arriving here to test her regeneration; it worked. But she knew well enough that even with it, going against Mayfield itself is always taking a leap of chance.]
expiatrice: (☼ well that doesn't look good)

[Her regeneration is disabled. ...Then onto the next directive. Would healing magic stop the bleeding? She can still try that on herself, not something she usually resorts to because of her self-regen abilities. Short of that, she'll try to withdraw the roll of red cloth in her bag. Burial Cloth is one of her earlier regains, useful in medicare to stop bleeding and reattach limbs. There's nothing to put back, but the priority is to treat the wound so she doesn't die from blood loss first. Panicking is useless, she's sufficiently trained to stay calm at least.

And if neither works...

Well, let's start by trying to see if she can stay alive.]

[Fair enough.

Taking in quietly a deep breath, she's going for a pen and a notepad. Better her than someone who can't recover; Archer needs to know about this and make aware anyone else here in the vicinity. So after a bit more of fumbling and her jotting down notes, she'll tear the page off with the following note:

The food is lethal, as expected. I can't speak anymore, but please round up anyone else you can find here and let them know immediately to not consume at any cost.

Archer? She may squeeze in a witty remark under lesser circumstances, but now's not a good time to kid around.]

[He watches her throughout this entire little episode, his mood changing from wary interest to surprise to deeply perturbed. Now and then he seems poised to say something, to move closer, but he ultimately does none of these things - only waits and watches until the time comes when she hands him the note. Archer reads it, then looks hard at Ciel. He wants to know, wants to ask what the food did to her. But now,'s not the best time for that. He just sighs, a careless sound that jars with the way his other hand is making a fist so tight his knuckles are flaring white.]

Got it. I'll stick around, warn everyone I meet.....if I have to leave, I'll put up a sign or something. [A pause, then he puts a hand to his temple as if struck by something. Jesus fucking Christ.] ...might as well do that now, actually. Mind if I borrow your pen?

[She gives a small nod and briefly closes her eyes. A quiet 'thank you', if he can tell.

His request is met with a mildly inquisitive gaze. Now that she can't talk, she's going to need her pen more than ever, but if he makes it short...

With a bit of hesitation, she hands it to him. A word of 'I'll give back ASAP' will be nice, Archer...]

[personal profile] enshrouds 2012-07-21 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. [He takes it, noting the hesitation. It doesn't take him long to suss out why.] You'll get it back in a minute. I'll pick some other time to play keepsies.

[He flashes a grin, one that can so often be confused with a sneer, and glances around for something to write on. There are posters scattered around advertising the various other attractions of the carnival - they'll do. He peels two of them off of nearby booths; carefully, so as not to tear them. The backs are an unsullied white, as he had hoped, and he's quick to write "DO NOT EAT: LETHAL" in big block letters across both posters.

Satisfied, he rolls them up and goes to hand the pen back to Ciel.]

It's better than nothing.

[looking on, she'll eventually give a small nod and slump her shoulders, as if giving in. Ah, fair enough. She'll briefly close her eyes and give a small bow when he hands her the pen back, too: thank you, she's going to be needing that a lot.

Now if you'll excuse her...

At least you know. Do you have any other plans, now?

[let's just move on as if nothing's happened, hmm?]
enshrouds: (we used to waitˏ we used to waste hours)

[personal profile] enshrouds 2012-07-22 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Fine with him; he'd rather not dwell on this. That's how one gets paralyzed, thinking too much about every awful detail. He looks at what she's written and shakes his head.]

Nope. [Archer glances away, unwilling to be honest. But there's something about Ciel's state that tugs at him - bothers him, so he fesses up after a moment.] Eh...maybe scout around for familiar faces. This place is one big trap for those idiots.
expiatrice: (☼ do you believe in vampire lore?)

[personal profile] expiatrice 2012-07-22 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her gaze lingers on him for a beat. Familiar faces? so he's been around... Then again, Grail Wars. He might've already gotten in touch with the Fuyuki group, that certainly wouldn't be surprising.

Nodding, she'll write the following:

That'd be wise. It'll be troublesome to explain my predicament to my acquaintances, but I'm perfectly okay otherwise, I can't stand still. I'll do another round and then head back to the church. You can meet me there later, if you wish?

no sense panicking just cause she lost her tongue, right. It's still business as usual, business as usual.]
enshrouds: (like a patient on a tableˏ)

[personal profile] enshrouds 2012-07-26 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't like that steady attention on him, with his nerves already ratcheted up well beyond comfortable levels, so he glances away again after reading her next response. Privately, Archer admires Ciel's nerve - god knows how he would react if he had been robbed of speech, probably with a great deal less composure - but he keeps that to himself.]

Sounds like a plan. [He shifts his weight a little; Archer feels restless, has to fight off the sensation of being cornered.] And I might swing by there later, but don't wait around for me. There's no telling how things might unravel in this place, or what I might be caught up doing.

[If they do meet up, that's all well and good, but if he's a no show, just keep on trucking.]
expiatrice: (☼ when all's said and done)

[personal profile] expiatrice 2012-07-26 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Most people who suddenly lose their tongue probably can't claim that they've already experienced something similar previously, so it's less him and more her... But her composure will stay solid, yes, no matter how his is - or how she notices it to be.

She nods. No, she's not going to wait for him, she's no plans to, but there's no need to write details like that out when they're already pressed like this. And so, the next line is a quick and simple one:

Okay. Be careful then, and please take care.

She'll give one last glance at the food stand, her eyes neutral for all they're worth, before pulling back her notepad and taking a step away. ...If that's all, she won't linger any more.]
